Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a medieval hammam bathhouse at the "Ancient Taraz" archaeological complex. This is a remarkable find dating to the 9th–12th centuries, proving the deep penetration of Islamic civilization into Central Asia.

An underground heating system (hypocaust), steam rooms and stone installations, construction from natural stone and brick — all of this attests to the advanced building culture and hygienic traditions of that era.
